"Todd"
Todd was a very athletic person.
Although he was very intelligent and liked to read, sports came first.
He loved sports--especially baseball. Before he could read, he knew so
much about the baseball players. Even as a preschooler he could surprise
adults with knowledge about baseball. He watched so many games on TV. He
always wanted me to play baseball with him. His form was so good. He played
baseball on school teams, summer teams, and legion teams. Many baseball
awards were presented to him. He was also good in basketball, track, and
golf. Several track records were broken by him.
Todd was
not a shy person. He never knew a stranger. He worked in a convenience
store about seven months. He was always telling us about a conversation
with a customer. Sometimes he borrowed money for something he would like
to have. I never had to remind him to repay me. As soon as he was paid,
he would return the borrowed money. He enjoyed showing me the things he
bought.
He was
also helpful. He would help me as well as doing thoughtful things for others.
Todd planned
to go to law school. Unfortunately, his plans were changed December 11,
2000. God called him away. He was thrown from his vehicle in an automobile
accident. The funeral director told me he was not a religious person but
he believed there had been Divine intervention because Todd had been thrown
so far and his outer body showed only a scratch and a bruised toe. He also
said Todd had such a pleasant look on his face and a smile.
Several
years ago a minister made a comment that I remembered after Todd left us.
The minister said he could tell if a person was a Christian by the smile
on the face. We miss Todd --no one knows--only God. It is a comfort to
know Todd is in a better place and we will see him when we are called away.
Even knowing that does not eliminate the pain.
