angel lisaLisa

Lisa's mother wrote, "Lisa almost came in like a little firecracker which would have been appropriate. She was born July 2nd 1974 in Ft carson Co. Was born with a heart murmur but it healed within 1 yr. At he age of 4 she was diagnosed with Wilms Tumor a congenital childhood cancer of the kidney. They removed her left and part of the right. Her lungs were involved but didn't have to do radiation to them.  They don't do as much treatment now because of all the side effects she had and which caused her death 25 yrs later.    Lisa never let anything get her down. She was a fighter from the word go! Hard to potty train because she "Liked her pampers" and that's the way it was until she decided different. She was good to everyone but don't talk behind her back or she would get you back. Had a real rough time in school because back then no one knew much about children getting cancer. Our town is only about 450 people and a very small school. A child with no hair coming to Kindergarten was quite a shock! So she was teased unmercifully and made herself sick so she wouldn't have to go. I think she didn't know what was going on either and that was her way of handling it. She did finally go and with all her problems was never held back once. Some hospitals had a schoolroom so she kept up that way.

They probably told us a dozen times she wouldn't make it through the night. But the next morning she was sitting up in bed wondering what was going on. We had an understanding that if she wanted to know something all she had to do was ask me. I never lied to her sometimes it was a little hard to explain to a small child but we got through it. Of course we had a special bond that will never be broken. We always knew what the other was thinking. She ended up at the end with curvature of the spine, enlarged spleen, renal failure, severe anemia, and had to have all her teeth pulled they literally rotted in her mouth. these were all caused from the high doses of radiation and the chemo. She had gone to camp a panda for kids with cancer or who had had it. So she collected lots of pandas! We are still finding them in her house she had put them everywhere! Then she also collected pillsbury doughboy which also was all over the house. We've boxed most of the doughboys up because their collectors and don't want anything to happen to them.

Just before she got sick this last time we had a circle out in the yard like someone had laid something out there. Well it never went away and before she'd gone in the hosp. it turned into a heart. When she passed it disappeared and we all felt terrible! Then about a week later it came back and still there to this day. No one knows how or why it's there. But I call it Lisa's' Heart.  She passed Fathers Day 45 minutes into it. 2 weeks short of her 32nd bd. what is weird is she was diagnosed a month short of her 4th bd. It always comes full circle doesn't it. Sorry if this is kind of haphazard, but I still have a hard time talking about her. I just miss her so much!

This darling little angel is designed with a pleated skirt and lovely scroll wings.  She stands about 1 1/4 inches tall and wears the unique twisted wire halo.
