Alpha
This angel was designed by special
request from the daughters who wrote,
"This graceful and elegant angel was created in memory of our mother, who died shortly before Christmas 2006. We named this angel "Alpha Angel" in memory of her, as she died from liver failure caused by a genetic disorder called Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency.
Our mother was a kind and loving person. There was nothing in this world more important to her than her family. As she took such great joy from celebrating family-in the center of this angel is a heart-symbolizing her love for us, and our love for her.
The Alpha Angel has an apple and book because our mother loved to teach and served an exemplary teacher for many years. She was loved by her students as well as her peers. In addition, she was an avid reader, and passed the love of reading along to her children and grandchildren.
The awareness ribbon on this angel is gray, the color for Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency. Most people are unfamiliar with this disorder, but it (Alpha-1) is one of the most prevalent genetic disorders in North America and Europe, affecting approximately 100,000 people in the U.S. alone, with an estimated 20 million undetected carriers that could pass the gene onto their children.
This angel to signifies how special she was to us and the freedom and peace that she now has.
Our mother-our teacher, mentor,
and friend, she is so greatly loved & so greatly missed."
